"Great Eastern"
The Great Eastern was an iron ship of great proportions (18,915 register tons) built at the height of the Victorian era of industrialization. The ship experienced many trials and had a checkered existence.

Volker Römer wanted to model this great ship in his spare time but creating a virtual model of this ship turned into a major undertaking. The Great Easter underwent several, on occasion extensive, phases of re-modeling. In addition, reports differ on the ship's color and how the ship was equipped. Historically viewed, recreating this ship as a virtual model required many compromises.
The modeling was done using blueprints as a reference. The ship's bow was created with the help of deformers, animated using XPresso. The water's surface was animated and textured using CINEMA 4D's wide array of noise shaders. In all, the model consists of approx. 1 million polygons.
"Thanks to CINEMA 4D's intuitive workflow and comprehensive collection of tools, this project was a joy to do."
