The trailer was to show a machine transform into a real human being. This metamorphosis was to symbolize the development of the Bitfilm Festival - a digital effects festival in which the border between what's real and what's not is becoming increasingly blurred. This project's greatest technical challenge was finding a fitting look and defining an effective workflow to achieve the desired results, all within two-week deadline. Based on years of experience, the professionals at Sehsucht knew CINEMA 4D would be the right choice for delivering great results on time.
"In the end it was the hair, the environment and the lighting that exceeded our expectations. The HAIR module, which we used for the first time ever, proved to be our saving grace. In the meantime, this module has become indispensable at Sehsucht. Since there was no time for developing a complicated lighting setup we used Adobe After Effects to create the required lighting environment in the compositing phase," said creative director Niko Tziopanos.
In particular, CINEMA 4D's capability to generate 32-bit renderings and its seamless connectivity to After Effects proved to be invaluable. Such functionality is essential for everyday work at studios such as Sehsucht.
Two artists worked two weeks to complete the project. In the first week, Maurice Jochem modeled the human figure. He was assisted in week two by Niko Tziopanos for the completion of the animation.
Even though CINEMA 4D made it possible to meet the tight deadline, Niko Tziopanos adds, "As you can imagine, these were the most sleepless two weeks we ever experienced."
