Babb is a graphics software technology authority with more than two decades of direct industry experience in the 3D animation, visual effects and motion graphics industry. He is noted for his unlimited creative energy, progressive stance on marketing and product development, customer service, and support for 3D education.
According to Bryant Frazer, editor, StudioDaily, the magazine's editorial team asked for nominations and also did their own sleuthing to create a list that recognizes excellence across the board, from high-end feature filmmaking to ground-level B2B productions, in a variety of disciplines.
"The StudioDaily 50 pays tribute to creatives, technologists, executives and others who exemplify the boundary-pushing spirit of innovation that drives our industry forward in their day-to-day work. In that spirit, we're delighted to honor Paul Babb's contributions as president and CEO of Maxon US by including him in the inaugural StudioDaily 50 list," said Frazer.
In January 1998, Babb was selected by Maxon Computer, headquartered in Friedrichsdorf, Germany, to develop a US-based entity to better serve the North and South American markets. Under Babb's strategic leadership, Maxon Computer, USA was established and since, his efforts have been integral in building the company from a relatively unknown player in the Americas to one of the market leaders for developing 3D animation and motion graphics technology solutions.
Today, Maxon's flagship Cinema 4D software suite is heralded as one of the fastest growing and most widely used 3D products for digital content creation with installments at leading film, post production and broadcast facilities in the US, and around the world. In addition, as a fierce proponent of the artist experience, Babb continues to play a role in building a thriving community of users and seamlessly integrating Cinema 4D with other industry leading software applications including Apple Final Cut Pro and Adobe After Effects to optimize artists' everyday workflow.
"I'm delighted to be among the inaugural honorees of the StudioDaily 50 award," said Babb. "While software tools have gotten more powerful and easier to use, the demands on the artist to keep clients happy, meet deadlines, stay current with technology, etc., have grown exponentially. For artists who take the time to devote themselves to our product, our responsibility is to bridge that educational gap and continually innovate to bring the most advanced 3D tools to market and remove the obstacles to creativity."
Prior to Maxon, Babb was product marketing manager at Electric Image, a former leading 3D animation and rendering software manufacturer. Earlier in his career he worked with Motorola, Intel, Capitol Records and others. Babb received a Master's Degree from the University of California, Los Angeles and a Bachelor's Degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
