Looking Forward: Maxon’s New R & D Department

As the maker of Cinema 4D, Maxon is continually working to develop our software to embrace emerging and evolving technologies and their applications, including touch interfaces, AR, VR and 3D printing, to name a few. We also know that it’s vitally important to look to the future in order to anticipate what existing as well as new customers will need and want.

I joined Maxon 13 years ago and, in that time, I’ve seen the company continually grow and change to ensure C4D’s tools are both cutting-edge and user friendly. Our User Experience Design and Development departments have been working closely with customers and beta testers for years to define and hone Cinema 4D’s user experience. I’m excited to announce we are expanding those efforts with the launch of Maxon’s new Research and Development Department.

This new R & D department team will seek out cutting-edge technological advancements, discoveries and innovations that are pertinent to the ever-changing needs of our customers. Using what we learn from universities, research institutes and companies all over the world, we will become increasingly adept at updating Maxon’s existing software. Our specialized team will also support the development of new tools—some of which may not even be imaginable now.

I am honored to have been selected to lead this effort, which will allow me to combine both my research and product management expertise. Before joining Maxon, I received my PhD from the Fraunhofer Institute for Computer Graphics Research where I studied under Professor and Computer Scientiest José Luis Encarnação. I also worked for a decade at the Institute in the Virtual and Augmented Reality Department.

I’m looking forward to my new role and have already started to explore partnerships with universities. I would be thrilled to hear from complementary programs, motivated administrators and individuals interested in partnering with us or simply providing feedback ([email protected]). We have also begun recruiting staff to join our research and development team. Interns and students are encouraged to apply by submitting a resume to [email protected].

As always, Maxon remains committed to Cinema 4D’s exceptional user experience. And our R & D department will also be focused on integrating future user-experience advancements, such as AI, into our software. Even in cases where what we learn isn’t directly applicable to our software, having a department devoted to keeping Maxon at the forefront of technology will be a great value to us and our customers.
