Cinema 4D Brings Award-Winning Titles to Screen Designer and animator Raoul Marks has won an Emmy for The Man in the High Castle titles.
For the second time in his career, renowned Designer Raoul Marks was awarded an Emmy for Outstanding Main Title Design. This year, his titles for dystopian science-fiction series “The Man in the High Castle” were recognized. In 2014, he had already won an Emmy for his work on HBO’s title sequence for “True Detective”.
Amazon’s “The Man in the High Castle” is an adaptation of Philip K. Dick’s dystopian alternative history novel. It explores a world where the Third Reich and the Japanese Imperial Army were victorious in the Second World War: the United States – occupied – is divided down the middle between the two competing powers. The characters' stories unfold amongst this parallel universe, with the constant hunt for a set of films, which begin to dismantle the reality in which they exist.
Raoul Marks worked with Creative Director Patrick Clair and the talented folks at Elastic to help bring the series’ titles to screen. A central concept of the titles, primarily realized using Cinema 4D, was to juxtapose two competing ideas within the one frame. To do this, the team used projection to emblazon the images of one reality upon the other. For example, the American bald eagle has the Nazi Eagle shone brightly across it or paratroopers stream down George Washington’s face. “Using Cinema 4D and Octane we were able to accurately digitally recreate the complex lighting scenarios that image projection entails,” Raoul explains. “It was very exciting to be working on a project with this caliber of talent involved. The show was produced by Scott Free, Ridley Scott’s company. To receive an Emmy for the work was a wonderful surprise and a great encouragement to keep pushing the envelope with what we can make with the tools and our minds.“
Maxon congratulates Raoul on his efforts and is pleased to help talented artists make their visions reality.
